Zen Cultivator
Miniature Zen Garden (Su): At 3rd level, a zen cultivator gains a miniature zen garden, which can be used to aid in monastic meditation. She also gains a ki pool whose maximum size is equal to twice her zen cultivator level + 1/2 her Wisdom modifier, rounded down (minimum 1).
Unlike a normal ki pool, a zen cultivator's ki pool does not replenish itself over time, but is rather set to 0 ki points whenever she finds herbs for the day. After finding herbs for the day, the zen cultivator may sacrifice any number of herbalism plants to her zen garden, effectively using them in her meditations. For each point worth of herbalism plants she sacrifices, she gains 2 ki points, to a maximum of her maximum pool size. She may only sacrifice plants once per day.
By spending one point from her ki pool, a zen cultivator can do one of the following:
- Increase her speed by +20 feet for 1 round, or
- Give herself a +4 dodge bonus to AC for 1 round, or
- Give herself a +2 luck bonus to her choice of Fortitude, Reflex, or Will saving throws for 1 round.
Each of these powers is activated as a swift action.
A zen cultivator’s levels in other classes that grant ki pools stack with her zen cultivator level for the purpose of determining the size of the ki pool granted by miniature zen garden. Even if the zen cultivator takes levels in another class that grants a ki pool that replenishes itself, her ki pool will retain its native behavior and require plant sacrifice for replenishment. Similarly, if a creature with a self-replenishing ki pool takes a level of zen cultivator, the zen cultivator’s ki pool replenishment behavior takes over.
Given the unique behavior of the zen cultivator’s ki pool, any feat that normally increases the size of a ki pool instead grants that many temporary ki points to the zen cultivator whenever her ki pool is set to 0. These temporary ki points persist for 24 hours.
Miniature zen garden is considered to be part of the earthenware jars class feature. For the purpose of meeting the prerequisites of feats, a zen cultivator is considered to have the ki pool class feature.
This ability replaces green thumb.
Bonus Feat (Ex): At 2nd level and every five levels thereafter, the zen cultivator gains a bonus feat. She may choose any feat as her bonus feat, so long as that feat requires ki points to activate, and so long as she meets its prerequisites. When gaining a bonus feat, the zen cultivator is considered to have a monk level equal to her zen cultivator level. This stacks with any monk levels she possesses.
