Regent (Advisor Archetype)

The trusted words and advice of the appointed regent go far. An envoy of their lord, or in charge of their own territory, the regent rules and advises over many.

This archetype is for the advisor class, a Spheres of Guile-based operative, published by Diamond Recreational Studios in Diamond Spheres: Harmony & Discord.

Alignment: A regent must be monarchist. A regent which is no longer a monarchist cannot take additional levels in this class.

Embassy: The regent’s base of operations is treated as their king’s realm for the purposes of [policy] realm abilities, benefitting the regent’s allies which rest within the base of operations (lasting for the usual 24 hours). The regent’s base of operations is treated as though it were a kingdom hex of every kind (allowing the regent to select any [policy] talents with hex or terrain-based prerequisites). This is in addition to the base of operations’ normal benefits.

The regent benefits from their own [policy] talents as though they were a kingking, even if they do not rest within their own base of operations.

This alters base of operations.

Governorship: At 3rd level and every odd level thereafter, the regent selects a kingking realm ability. [Policy] realm abilities do not grant kingdom building-related benefits, but may provide minor narrative benefits to the base of operations (subject to GM discretion, such as the vibrant lands medicinal herbs ability assisting in mitigating a disease outbreak).

For the purposes of these realm abilities, the regent treats their effective kingking level as equal to half their regent level and uses their operative modifier as their nobility ability modifier.

The regent no longer receives base of operations benefits from the tailored advice ability.

In addition, the regent has access to the following unique realm ability:

• Regent’s Advice: The regent gains two base of operations tailored advice. The regent must possess the appropriate skill spheres to select the associated benefit (i.e. the Artifice sphere to select the Artifice tailored advice).

The regent may select this realm ability an additional time at 9th level, and again at 17th level.

This alters tailored advice. The regent still receives the undermine strategy options granted by this ability.

Special – Future Kingking: The regent uses the greater of their effective kingking level and their actual kingking level when determining the effects of their realm abilities, increased by a further +1 (this benefit does not stack with another similar effective kingking level increase).

For example, a regent 10 / kingking 2 would have an effective kingking level of 5 and actual kingking level of 2, so their effective kingking level for realm abilities would be 6.
