Class Skills
A prismatic duelist gains Knowledge (arcana), Spellcraft, and Use Magic Device as class skills.
This alters class skills.
Saving Throws
A prismatic duelist’s base Will save is equal to 2 + half her swashbuckler level.
This ability alters the swashbuckler’s base saving throws.
Combat Training
A prismatic duelist may combine combat spheres and talents to create powerful martial techniques. Prismatic duelists are considered Adept combatants. Her practitioner modifier is Charisma. In addition, if this is this character’s first level in any class, she may select a martial tradition of her choice.
Refractions
Refractions tagged with (deed) are extraordinary abilities, and are considered deeds for purposes of all feats and class features. Refractions tagged with (dispersion) are supernatural effects triggered by a successful use of the spell scatter ability. Unless otherwise stated, the caster level of any effects created by a (dispersion) is equal to the prismatic duelist’s level and sphere effects cast as part of the (dispersion) do not provoke attacks of opportunity. Any saving throws required by a refraction have a DC equal to 10 + 1/2 her class level + her practitioner modifier.
Refractions tagged with (modal) are spell-like abilities which replicate a single sphere talent or ability, chosen at the time the refraction is taken. Any talents cast by activating a (modal) refraction do not provoke attacks of opportunity or require concentration checks due to environmental factors, ongoing damage, or other circumstances. Once per day the prismatic duelist may spend one hour in study and practice to change the talent selected for one of her (modal) refractions.
Starting at 2nd level, and every 2nd level thereafter, the prismatic duelist gains an additional refraction. All prismatic duelists start with the following refractions at 1st level:
- Manacharge (Dispersion): The prismatic duelist gains a +1 insight bonus on all attack rolls and saving throws. This bonus increases by 1 at 4th level, and every 4 levels thereafter. This refraction lasts for one round per swashbuckler level, to a maximum of her practitioner modifier.
- Duelist’s Defense (Deed): The prismatic duelist gains the Parry And Riposte talent from Fencing sphere, even if she does not possess the base sphere. She may expend a point of panache rather than martial focus when using this talent.
This replaces deeds and charmed life.
Spellblade (Su)
Though not a mage herself, every prismatic duelist has a spark of magic within her. She treats her swashbuckler levels as levels in a casting class for purposes of determining her magic skill bonus (MSB) and magic skill defense (MSD). Her swashbuckler levels stack with levels in casting classes for this purpose.
Spell Scatter (Su)
At 1st level, the prismatic duelist gains the ability to counter magical energies directed at her. When an enemy targets against her with a non-harmless sphere effect or sphere-like ability, or includes her in the area of effect of such an ability, she may spend 1 panache point and expend an attack of opportunity in order to scatter that sphere effect.
She attempts a magic skill check against the caster, if successful, the sphere effect or sphere-like ability fails to affect the prismatic duelist. Upon performing a successful spell scatter, as long as she has one panache, she may activate one dispersion she knows as an immediate action. She may also attempt to spell scatter non-harmless supernatural abilities, however doing so does not allow her to activate a dispersion unless otherwise stated. The effective MSD for supernatural abilities is equal to 11 + the caster’s CR.
Full Spectrum Glow (Su)
At 3rd level, upon activating a (dispersion), the prismatic duelist is surrounded in a 10-foot aura of blinding light. This effect lasts one round, imposes a 20% miss chance on all attacks made by other creatures that begin their turn within the radius. Creatures that lack eyes, are immune to gaze attacks, or otherwise not reliant on sight, are immune to this effect.
This replaces nimble.
Phase Shift Strike (Su)
At 4th level, as a special attack action, the prismatic duelist may make an attack with a melee weapon against an enemy with at least one ongoing magical effect. If the attack hits, she may spend a point of panache to attempt a magic skill check against the creature. If successful, one effect is dispelled as if by the Counterspell feat. If an effect was dispelled this way, she may activate one (dispersion) refraction she knows as an immediate action, provided she has at least one point of panache.
Prismatic Training (Ex)
At 5th level, the prismatic duelist gains the benefits of the Improved Critical feat when wielding a light or one handed melee weapon. Additionally, whenever the prismatic duelist makes an attack action or an attack of opportunity with a melee weapon, she deals additional precision damage equal to 1/2 her swashbuckler level.
This replaces swashbuckler weapon training +1.
Mana Polarization (Su)
At 9th level, the prismatic duelist may select two spheres. Once per round, she may attempt a spell scatter against a sphere effect, or sphere-like ability from either of those spheres without spending a panache. Once per day the prismatic duelist may spend one hour in study and practice to change the spheres selected for this ability. This may be done in conjunction with the hour spent changing a selection for her (modal) refractions.
This replaces swashbuckler weapon training +2.
Dichroic Refraction (Su)
At 11th level, when she activates a dispersion via a successful use of spell scatter, she may spend 2 panache to activate another dispersion. If the sphere effect which triggered the dispersion has a caster level greater than her level, decrease the cost of activating this ability by one panache.
Full Spectrum Brilliance (Su)
At 15th level, the prismatic duelist may spend two panache when activating full spectrum glow emit an aura of radiant colors and magical backlash. Rather than inflicting a miss chance, it acts as the Prismatic Radiance Light sphere advanced talent with a caster level equal to her swashbuckler level. The prismatic duelist is immune to this effect. The DC of this effect is 10 + 1/2 swashbuckler level + practitioner modifier.
This ability replaces swashbuckler weapon training +3, and +4.
Refractions
Astral Drift (dispersion)
The prismatic duelist may teleport, as the base Warp sphere ability. At 10th level she may increase the teleport range to medium, and gain the benefits of Unseeing Teleport.
Blinding Speed (dispersion)
The prismatic duelist gains the effects of the Haste talent of Time sphere for one round per level. If the prismatic duelist is at least 10th level, she also gains the benefits of Improved Haste.
Critical Angle (deed, requires prismatic duelist 6)
Upon confirming a critical hit with a melee weapon, the prismatic duelist may forgo regaining panache and the additional damage from the critical hit to instead activate one dispersion she knows as an immediate action. For purposes of this dispersion, treat the effective CL of the triggering effect as being equal to the prismatic duelist’s level.
Disparity (deed, dispersion, requires prismatic duelist 18)
The prismatic duelist may expend martial focus to place a mark upon the caster who triggered this refraction, which lasts for a number of rounds equal to her practitioner modifier. If the prismatic duelist confirms a critical hit against an enemy bearing this mark, she may end the mark and expend three panache to trigger a cataclysmic reaction within her foe. As a free action which may be taken outside of their turn, the target may opt to lose any number of spell points from their pool, they then take 1d6 untyped damage per spell point remaining in their pool.
Dispersive Clarity
Upon activating a (dispersion), the prismatic duelist may spend a panache to regain martial focus.
Duelist’s Redaction (dispersion, modal)
Upon gaining this refraction, choose one (expunge) talent which does not cost a spell point to activate. You may expend an attack of opportunity to cast this expunge as a free action which can be taken outside of your turn.
Full Spectrum Restraint
The prismatic duelist may exclude a number of squares equal to her practitioner modifier from her full spectrum abilities.
Manablood (deed)
The essence of magic suffuses the prismatic duelist’s very being; making her exceptionally skilled at manipulating the flow within others. The prismatic duelist gains a +1 bonus to magic skill checks when using counterspell feats or spellscatter. This bonus increases by 1 at 7th level, and every four levels thereafter.
Manaleak (deed, requires prismatic duelist 11) (Su)
When the prismatic duelist hits a creature with a melee weapon, as a free action she can spend a panache point to place a persistent spell point bleed upon the target. This functions as the Mana Bleed Blood sphere talent, triggering automatically at the start of the target’s turn. This bleed can be cured by a Heal check (DC 15 + her swashbuckler level) or the target succeeding on a magic skill check against her as a standard action.
Mana is Binding (dispersion, modal)
Upon gaining this refraction choose one manabond which does not cost a spell point to activate. As a free action, the prismatic duelist may establish a manabond between herself and any creature within close range. If the caster level of the effect which triggered this dispersion is at least equal to her level plus 2, then she may concentrate on the manabond as a free action.
Mana is Death (dispersion, modal)
Upon gaining this refraction choose one ghost strike which does not cost a spell point to activate. After activating this dispersion, until the end of her next turn, the prismatic duelist may spend a standard action to make a single melee attack. If the attack hits, the target is also affected by the chosen ghost strike. She may instead apply this effect to the first phase shift strike made before the end of her next turn. If the caster level of the effect which triggered this dispersion is at least equal to her level plus 1, the prismatic duelist may spend two panache to activate the Curse ghost strike instead of her chosen one.
Mana is Life (dispersion)
The prismatic duelist is affected by the cure and restore base abilities from the Life sphere. If the caster level of the effect which triggered this dispersion is at least equal to her level plus 2, then she may spend one panache to add the effects of Restore Health or Restore Senses to the cure.
Mana is Ruin (dispersion, modal)
Upon gaining this refraction choose one blast type which does not cost a spell point to activate. After activating this dispersion, until the end of her next turn, the prismatic duelist may spend a standard action to make a single melee attack. If the attack hits, the target is also affected by a destructive blast, augmented by the chosen blast type. She may instead apply this effect to the first phase shift strike made before the end of her next turn. If the caster level of the effect which triggered this dispersion is at least equal to her level, she may spend one panache to increase the damage dealt by the destructive blast to one damage die per swashbuckler level (minimum 2d6).
Mana Overload (dispersion, requires prismatic duelist 8)
The caster may not activate the sphere-like ability, supernatural ability, or talents and abilities from the sphere which triggered this dispersion for 1d4 rounds. At 12th level and every 4 levels thereafter, the duration increases by 1 round. The caster may end the effect by succeeding on a magic skill check against the prismatic duelist as a standard action. This dispersion may be activated by supernatural abilities.
Modal Focus (requires prismatic duelist 2, any (modal) refraction)
When spending an hour to change a single (modal) talent the prismatic duelist may instead select a new talent for each (modal) refraction she possesses, or she may select a second talent to use with one (modal) refraction. Upon activating the refraction, the prismatic duelist may choose which of the two talents to activate. If the prismatic duelist selects another secondary talent, or changes more than one talent selection, she loses any secondary talents gained.
Pinpoint Refraction
Whenever the prismatic duelist activates a dispersion, she may select an ally within close range, and grant them the effects of the dispersion instead.
Rakish Counterspell
The prismatic duelist gains a Counterspell feat of her choice. She may spend a panache rather than a spell point to activate a Counterspell feat. This refraction may be selected multiple times.
Shielding Refraction (dispersion, requires prismatic duelist 10)
If the prismatic duelist uses this refraction on an effect which affects multiple creatures, she may spend two panache to select up to two additional creatures to be unaffected. At 15th level, and every five levels thereafter, she may select an additional creature to be unaffected. This dispersion may be activated by supernatural abilities.
Spellshards (dispersion, requires prismatic duelist 14)
The prismatic duelist may spend two panache and martial focus to cause the caster to be affected by a non-harmless effect which triggered this refraction. If the effect targets an area, treat the caster as if they were included in the spell’s area of effect. Treat the prismatic duelist as the effect’s caster for purposes of all benefits and abilities. This refraction cannot be used on harmless effects.
Sphere Arts
The prismatic duelist gains a combat talent. This refraction may be selected multiple times.
Swashbuckler Arts (deed)
The prismatic duelist chooses and gains one deed available to a swashbuckler of her current level. The prismatic duelist may not select the opportune parry and riposte, precise strike, and evasive deeds with this refraction.
This refraction may be selected multiple times.
