Legends of monsters and magic tend to collate into larger traditions over the ages, traditions which many feel strongly about. Mythos hunters carry either a deep fascination or a scathing disdain for one such tradition in particular, focusing their abilities on combating the denizens of a particular tale.

Eye for Stories: At 1st level, the mythos hunter receives the Scout sphere as a bonus sphere and Target Spotting as a bonus feat.

Favored Mythos (Ex): At 1st level, the mythos hunter selects a specific literary tradition in which creatures appear. Creatures sourced from the chosen tradition are considered to be the mythos hunter’s favored prey.

A literary tradition may take the form of a shared mythological tradition (such as Greek Mythology or Norse Poetry), the works of a specific author or group (such as Lewis Carroll or H.P. Lovecraft’s mythos cycle), or another grouping of works (such as “Wuxia” or “1970s Action Movies”). Creatures that the players and GM can agree are derived from a literary tradition also count as being part of that literary tradition (for example, halflings and treants could reasonably be considered part of a “Works of J.R.R. Tolkien” literary tradition). As humans tend to appear in the vast majority of stories, humans do not innately count as being part of any particular literary tradition.

In addition to creatures, characters who possess certain classes, feats, talents, or other features may also be treated as being part of a literary tradition for the purpose of favored mythos. For example, a Japanese Mythology literary tradition might include characters with levels in ninja while a Cyberpunk literary tradition might include characters with the Technomancy sphere. What ultimately qualifies as being part of a specific literary tradition is up to GM discretion.

Storied Techniques: A mythos hunter may select bardic masterpieces in place of reaper talents, using their mythos hunter level as their effective bard level. By spending a spell point as a free action, a mythos hunter may gain one round of bardic performance which lasts for 1 minute and can only be used for bardic masterpieces. At 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter, the number of bardic performance rounds gained from spending a spell point increases by 1.

Pedantic Lore (Su): At 5th level, the mythos hunter becomes extremely adept at spotting allusions and motifs in their surroundings, nuances which are often lost on their fellows. The mythos hunter gains the bardic knowledge and lore master abilities of a bard of their reaper level. Whenever the mythos hunter takes 10 or 20 on a Knowledge check using lore master, the mythos hunter takes a -4 penalty on non-Knowledge skill checks for 1 minute.

Weakness Savvy (Ex): At 7th level, the mythos hunter gains Target Weakness as a bonus talent. When using Target Weakness, the effects of the talent last for a number of attacks equal to the mythos hunter’s practitioner modifier (minimum 2) rather than just the next attack.

At 13th level, the mythos hunter does not need to spend martial focus to use Target Weakness as a free action.

Homage to the Classic (Su): At 9th level, the mythos hunter may weave a story’s resonant power to replicate a storied success. When the mythos hunter attempts an attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, they may spend a spell point to roll twice and take the higher result. Whenever the mythos hunter uses this ability, they roll twice and take the lower result on all other d20 rolls until the end of their next turn.

Quote the Source (Su): At 13th level, a mythos hunter can spend a spell point as a swift action to invoke a primordial storytelling language that legendary creatures seem to innately understand. For a number of minutes equal to the mythos hunter’s level, they may communicate with their favored prey regardless of language (as the Logos sense from the Divination sphere with two spell points spent) and may apply their favored enemy bonus on all skill checks made against their favored prey (rather than just Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks). When this effect ends, the mythos hunter is abruptly pulled back into their uncertain reality, becoming shaken for 1 hour.

Legend-Woven Blessing (Sp): At 17th level, a mythos hunter can offer themself up to the power of stories in order to send a chain of impossible phenomena resonating through their surroundings. Once per day, the mythos hunter can request a minor miracle. This request must be in line with the options for miracle that don’t cost powdered diamond. As usual for a miracle, the deity or other being the mythos hunter draws power from can choose whether or not to grant the request at its whim. Whenever the mythos hunter uses this ability, they suffer 1d6 points of ability burn to all of their ability scores.

One World, Countless Stories (Ex): At 20th level, a mythos hunter understands existence as an endless stream of connections, identifying how themes and elements depicted in any tale have-for better or worse-touched any given moment of the mythos hunter’s present experience. The mythos hunter treats all creatures as if the mythos hunter had scouted them and becomes immune to ability damage, ability drain, death effects, and level drain.
