These ravelers take advantage of their ravels for a variety of deceptive, organizational, or utility purposes, leveraging their power to seize opportunities in unusual circumstances.

Trade Tradition

If this is this character’s first level in any class, the guile raveler may select a trade tradition of their choice, and have a competent trade rank.

This replaces the raveler's normal class skills and the changes to class skills from the casting raveler and martial raveler.

Blended Training

In addition to the normal talents they may select from their raveler talent progression and raveler bonus talents, the guile raveler may select skill talents (some of which are required to be [utility] talents). The guile raveler uses the virtuoso talent progression rather than the raveler’s normal talent progression. A guile raveler uses their casting ability modifier or their practitioner modifier as their operative modifier.

This modifies the raveler’s blended talents, casting raveler’s magic talents, or martial raveler’s combat training. If the guile raveler has the specialist archetype, the guile raveler uses the trained talent progression rather than the raveler’s normal talent progression.

Guileweaving (Su)

Ravelers can also use the magical powers of their ravels to empower their skill abilities. Whenever the raveler uses an ability of a skill sphere, they can choose to unweave one of their ravels as part of using the effect. They can also unweave one of their ravels as a swift action to enhance the abilities of a continuous effect granted by a skill sphere. Unweaving one of their ravels briefly empowers that ability with their magic, allowing them to treat their skill ranks with that ability as 1 higher when determining the effects of that ability. This bonus further increases by 1 at 5th level, and every 4 levels thereafter.

For abilities with a duration or for constant abilities, this bonus lasts for the duration of the ability, or until the ravel is no longer unwoven (whichever happens first). If an item or object is created in this way (such as a Herbalism sphere tincture or tonic), that created item is considered to be supernatural and is destroyed if the ravel stops being unwoven. This ability cannot be used with any ability that grants the raveler a companion, such as the Retainer ability of the Faction sphere.

For instantaneous abilities, this bonus applies every time that ability is used for as long as the ravel is unwoven, but no more than once each round.

If skill checks are made as part of an ability affected by guileweaving, those skill checks are not made using this increase in effective skill ranks.

Starting at 5th level, whenever the guile raveler uses guileweaving, they gain a temporary use of skill leverage which must be used within 1 minute or else it is lost. At 11th and 17th level, the guileweaver gains an additional use of skill leverage when they use guileweaving. In addition, when the guile raveler uses guileweaving, they may outwit a target as part of the same action as if the target were uncertain, shocked, or dumbfounded.

This replaces the bonus feats gained by the raveler, casting raveler, or martial raveler at 5th, 11th, and 17th levels.

Variant Extemporaneous Guile Raveler

A guile raveler can choose to take the following variant to their archetype, grantng them greater versatility in exchange for a reduced pool of talents

Spontaneous Technique (Ex)

Once per day, the guile raveler can spend 1 hour and choose a number of combat, magic or skill talents they do not possess equal to their operative modifier (minimum 1), plus 1 additional talent per 3 raveler levels after 4th, making these talents prepared. Once chosen, these talents cannot be changed until the raveler spends another 8 hours to change them. The raveler must possess the talent’s base sphere and must meet any prerequisites. If a talent offers a choice as part of gaining it, they make that choice when they prepare the talent.

Whenever a ravel is unwoven, the guile raveler can grant themself a single talent prepared with this ability for as long as the ravel remains unwoven. Whenever the guile raveler uses this ability again to select a new talent as part of unweaving another ravel, the guile raveler must replace a talent granted by a previous use.

At 6th level, the guile raveler can have up to two talents active at one time using their spontaneous technique ability, each corresponding to a different unwoven ravel. One of these talents can meet the prerequisites of the second talent; doing so means that the guile raveler cannot replace a talent currently fulfilling another’s prerequisite without also replacing the talents that require it.

At 8th level, the guile raveler can spend 1 minute to change one of the talents they have prepared using spontaneous technique, but cannot choose a [utility] talent when they use this option. The guile raveler may spend 1 use of skill leverage to instead change one prepared talent as a standard action.

At 10th level, whenever a ravel is unwoven, the guile raveler may unweave an additional ravel in place of gaining a prepared talent to grant a single combat, magic, or skill talent they have prepared with spontaneous technique to an ally within close range (25 feet + 5 feet per 2 class levels) for as long as both ravels are unwoven. The ally must meet the prerequisites for the granted talent, though the guile raveler is not required to do so. Any additional uses of this ability on a single ally ends the previous use. The guile raveler does not gain any talents from having either ravel unwoven in this way.

At 14th level, the guile raveler can have up to three talents active at one time using their spontaneous technique ability, each corresponding to a different unwoven ravel. In addition, the guile raveler may spend an immediate action to unweave a single ravel.

At 16th level, the guile raveler may unweave a ravel as a free action once per round and may spend an immediate action to unweave two ravels.

At 20th level, the guile raveler may gain the benefit of any number of selected talents with her spontaneous technique ability as a swift action. Each individual talent selected requires a ravel to be unwoven.

This replaces the bonus talents gained at 2nd level and every 2 levels thereafter.
