Exploitant
Table of Contents
Though not as versatile as some of their kin, exploitants excel at drawing unique solutions from their training. A more focused skill set allows the exploitant to conjure up new strategies with ease and adapt to the ebb and flow of combat.
Special: This archetype may be combined with the battle-born, chromamancer, and gutter rat archetypes. When combined with battle-born, the exploitant’s insight ability replaces martial adaptation and only allows for the selection of martial and skill talents. When combined with chromamancer, the exploitant’s insight ability replaces mystic adaptation and only allows for the selection of magic and skill talents. When combined with gutter rat, the exploitant’s insight ability replaces roguish adaptation and only allows for the selection of magic talents, rogue talents, and skill talents. When combined with both battle-born and gutter rat archetypes, the exploitant’s insight ability replaces roguish adaptation and only allows for the selection of combat talents, rogue talents, and skill talents. The gutter rat gains sneak attack as long as they have selected a rogue talent with spontaneous technique or moldable talents.
Trade Tradition
If this is this character’s first level in any class, the exploitant may select a trade tradition of her choice, and have an adroit trade rank.
This replaces the prodigy's normal class skills.
Blended Training
An exploitant gains a combat, magic, or skill talent (some of which are required to be [utility] talents) at the listed levels using the virtuoso talent progression. Exploitants use their casting ability modifier as their practitioner modifier and operative modifier.
This alters blended training.
Incremental Sequence (Ex)
Whenever the exploitant performs a finisher, she may subtract any number of links from her sequence rather than ending the sequence. If she does, the finisher treats the sequence’s length as being the number of subtracted links rather than the number of links in the sequence. Any other effects which would cause a sequence to end function as normal. If a finisher has a minimum number of required links, you must spend at least that many links on that finisher.
This alters sequence.
Exploitant’s Insights (Ex)
At 2nd level, the exploitant chooses between moldable talents and spontaneous technique.
This replaces adaptation, improved adaptation, greater adaptation, share adaptation, master adaptation, and grandmaster adaptation.
Moldable Talents (Ex)
The exploitant gains a magic, combat, or skill talent at 2nd level and every 3 levels thereafter. However, unlike most talents, an exploitant is able to change these particular talents as she desires. Whenever the exploitant rests to regain spell points, she may change any and all of the moldable talents, losing the previous ones and gaining new spheres and new talents in their place. Only moldable talents can be changed in this way; talents gained from normal progression, as part of levels taken in other classes, as part of traditions, or gained from taking the appropriate feat(s) are not eligible to be changed in this fashion.
Spontaneous Technique (Ex)
Once per day, the exploitant can spend 1 hour and choose a number of combat, magic or skill talents she does not possess equal to her operative modifier (minimum 1), plus 1 additional talent per 3 exploitant levels after 4th, making these talents prepared. Once chosen, these talents cannot be changed until she spends another 8 hours to change them. The exploitant must possess the talent’s base sphere and must meet any prerequisites. If a talent offers a choice as part of gaining it, she makes that choice when she prepares the talent.
As a move action, the exploitant can grant herself a single talent prepared with this ability for 1 minute. The exploitant can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + 1/2 her prodigy level. Whenever the exploitant uses this ability again to select a new talent, the exploitant must replace a talent granted by a previous use.
At 5th level, the exploitant can have up to two talents active at one time using her spontaneous technique ability. The exploitant can use her spontaneous technique ability as a move action to gain the benefits of two prepared talents, or she may use the ability as a swift action to gain the benefits of one prepared talent.
One of these talents can meet the prerequisites of the second talent; doing so means that she cannot replace a talent currently fulfilling another’s prerequisite without also replacing the talents that require it.
At 8th level, the exploitant can spend 1 minute and 1 use of spontaneous technique to change one of the talents she has prepared using spontaneous technique, but cannot choose a [utility] talent when she uses this option. The exploitant may spend 1 use of skill leverage to instead change one prepared talent as a standard action.
At 10th level, as a standard action the exploitant may spend two uses of her spontaneous technique ability to grant a single combat, magic, or skill talent she has prepared with spontaneous technique to an ally within close range (25 feet + 5 feet per 2 class levels) for 1 minute. The ally must meet the prerequisites for the granted talent, though the exploitant is not required to do so. Any additional uses of this ability on a single ally ends the previous use.
At 13th level, the exploitant can spend a move action to gain the benefits of three prepared talents, a swift action to gain the benefits of two prepared talents, or a free or immediate action to gain the benefits of a single prepared talent.
At 17th level, the exploitant may use her spontaneous technique to gain the benefits of three prepared talents as a swift action, or two prepared talents as a free or immediate action.
At 20th level, the exploitant may gain the benefit of any number of selected talents with her spontaneous technique ability as a swift action. Each individual talent selected counts toward the prodigy’s daily uses of spontaneous technique.
Perfected Exploitant (Ex)
At 20th level, when the exploitant starts a new sequence, it automatically begins with a number of links equal to half her operative ability modifier.
This replaces perfected prodigy.
